On M. Yu. Lermontov’s “Sweets” and “Bitter Medicines”: An Attempt at “Interlinear” Reading of the Preface of A Hero of Our Time

This article analyses the Preface for second edition of A Hero Our Time by M. Yu. Lermontov written in spring 1841, which has not yet become subject a special study. The logic study is based on one provisions V. G. Belinsky’s critical work Lermontov’s novel postulating principles “interlinear” reading Preface, which, according to critic, can only contribute correct understanding author’s intention this text. pays attention figurative and symbolic structure final paragraph potentially containing references texts Holy Scripture. authors provide arguments about conscious orientation thought biblical sources, caused writer’s reaction first responses novel, where an important role belongs review S.
